About Us

Mya Carroll 

CEO & Founder


 

Mya Carroll, a native Houstonian, passion for helping others began in 1994 as she volunteered for the Special Olympics. Mya gained experience working with others while mentoring with women and children throughout the Greater Houston area. Mya, also volunteered doing research with children at Severe Behavior Disorders Research Clinic helping children gain control over their behaviors. Mya is currently Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Phoenix Women’s Outreach, Inc., Owner of Carroll’s Events & Catering, President of South Houston Concerned Citizens’ Coalition, Entrepreneur, Author and Mentor.

Mya is a graduate of Houston Community College with an Associate of Arts, University of Houston Clear Lake with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Applied Behavior Analysis and Women’s Studies and Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management at the University of Houston Downtown.

Mya married her high school sweetheart Richard Carroll and loves parenting their 4 beautiful children.

Honors and recognitions include being an Honoree at the Forever Families 2012 Black Tie Awards Gala “Recognizing Community Heroes”. Borris L. Miles State Representative District 146, Dr. Alma A. Allen State Representative, and Andrew C. Burks, Jr. Houston City Council Member, At-Large Position 2 all presented Mya with a certificate as a “community hero”.

 

Also, Annise D. Parker Mayor of the City of Houston presented Mya with a letter of recognition for involvement in the Houston community. She was a 2013 Minority Achievers Honoree. Also, in 2013 Mya received the Jefferson Awards for Public Service.

In 2014 IBN Sina Foundation awarded her for Outstanding Community Health Services. Rodney Ellis presented Mya with a Certification of Appreciation for her commitment and support in the 2014 Southwest Back to School Carnival. In 2015 Mya received a Proclamation from Annise D. Parker, the Mayor of the City of Houston and declared April 17 the Mya Carroll’s Day. Also, in April 2015 Mya received a Humanitarian Service Award Proclamation from Building Better Families.

In July of 2015 Mya was honored at the Status of Women Yellow Rose Luncheon for dedicated service to women and children in the community. She was presented with the 40/40 Award in December 2015. In January 2016 she received Profiles of Prominence Award presented by NWOA. In September of 2016 she received The Making a Difference Foundation Award presented by Survivors with Voices.

Memberships include The National Society of Leadership and Success, Women Studies Association, American Psychology Association, National Association of Professional Women, National Women of Achievement, Inc.

Mya believes everyone can make a difference if they put forth the effort to do so. Her motto is “It takes a community to build a community”.

Dr. Dickerson

Dr. Toscha L Dickerson has been in the field of procurement and supply chain management for 20 years.  Her experiences include, consulting, project management, leadership, and business services.  She is the owner of Live Empowered Coaching and Consulting LLC where she provides coaching and business services to aspiring entrepreneurs. Dr. Dickerson is a certified professional life and re-entry coach.  She is the founder of non-profit organization S.T.R.E.S.S.O.U.T. which assists women who have been incarcerated and re-entering back into their communities with supportive services.

Dr. Dickerson is an author and professor of higher education where she enjoys writing, teaching, and inspiring young girls to reach their highest potential.  Dr. Dickerson is a board member of Rève Preparatory Charter School and a Charter founder of Queens of Zion #257. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her husband and children.

 

Chirvone hold a degree in Biology from Grambling State University where she graduated with honors. She is very active in the community by volunteering with one or more of many of her favorite community service organizations. Ensemble Theatre , Sister to Sister Breast Cancer Organization, The United Negro College Fund, The Girl Scouts U.S.A., and South Union Stem Program just to name a few.

She has served on numerous committees and boards including The Advisory Board  of South Union Community Corporation Development and serve as the  Chair of Institute for Careers and Leadership Development Corporation. In addition to being active in the community she is also active in her church, Crossroad Community Church in Pearland. The Women-to Women, Culinary and the Care ministry are the ministries she currently serves.

Additionally, Chirvone have worked over 40 years with Lyondellbasell Incorporation as a Laboratory Specialist and still working full time today.

LaKitha Green

Lakitha Green, a native Houstonian, began her professional career in 2001 as a Social & Financial Case Manager with Harris County Social Services. After a few months, she decided to turn her passion for helping others into becoming an elementary teacher. While completing an extensive internship with Harris County Juvenile Probation, Lakitha gained experience with monitoring and mentoring troubled teens. Ms. Green has over sixteen years of experience in the field of education; and is currently an Elementary School Counselor/Parent Coordinator in Pasadena Independent School District.

Lakitha attended Prairie View A & M University from 1998- 2004. During that time, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling.

Lakitha plans to go into private practice. The target population will be youth and adolescents in need of counseling services for issues such as self-esteem, anger management, abuse & neglect.

Viola has worked in different aspects of the housing industry for over 30 years.  She is passionate about working as a Realtor. She recognizes that everyone knows when they see that very special home. The one you just go "Awe, this is it!" Once you see it, nothing else will compare. She will help you find that home and negotiate a great price for you. Viola lives in Crosby and enjoys walking, playing tennis, and working out at the YMCA on her spare time. She also volunteers part of her time to the Phoenix Women's Outreach, which is a non-profit organization. This organization was created to empower women from all walks of life. Service is a vital part of her make up. Helping you will be her pleasure.

Viola Risinger

Wilonder Shelton is an Administrative Assistant for the Hiram Clarke Missionary Baptist Church.  She takes pride in being able to help and support and officially joined the team in October 2018.  She received her BA in Sociology and Business from the University of Missouri-Columbia.  Wilonder is married to Miles Shelton and they have 8 children and 6 grandchildren.

Brooklyn Mann is a native Houstonian. She is a proud graduate of the James Madison High School for Meteorology and Space Science. Her greatest accomplishment thus far is being a mother to her two sons. She received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Political Science from University of Houston in 2007.

She was a devoted employee for the State of Texas for almost a decade until her resignation to be a full time entrepreneur. She is owner of three businesses, Out of This World Events (Event and wedding planning), B. Mann Design Group (Interior Decorating & Design) and Mann Transportation & Freight Consultants.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, planning events, arts and crafts, interior decorating, DIY projects and traveling. She is a member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston. Brooklyn is passionate about being there for those close to her, helping single mothers and volunteering in the community. She has worked very closely with Star of Hope programs for single or pregnant mothers, March of Dimes, Toys for Tots, Back to School Drives and along with some of her event industry colleagues started the Grant A Wish Giveaway, which gifts Christmas dinner, a Christmas tree, decorations and gifts to needy families during the holidays.
